Incorporation of the Arts

In an article written in Arts + Health, Dr. Pat Bracken discusses “The Recovery Approach.” This approach introduces the creative arts as having a central role on a client’s road to health. Dr. Bracken also believes that the arts compliment mental health work because they in and of themselves are very therapeutic and provide opportunities for meanings to develop. Art has the ability to help clients connect with their emotions in a way that is nonthreatening. Art also has the capacity to help clients shape their identity and give voice to the parts of them that have been voiceless.
